Bringing Celebrations To The Regions With Youth Fest 2024
The Allan Labor Government is supporting young people across regional Victoria with grants for youth-led events and activities at the month-long Youth Fest 2024.
Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman today announced close to $220,000 in grants for 110 recipients to host events and activities led by and for young people across the state as part of Youth Fest 2024, to be held in September this year.
Successful recipients include schools, local government and community organisations, which will each receive a grant of up to $2000 to create exciting and interactive events for young people.
Almost half of this year’s Youth Fest events will take place in regional and rural locations, including activities in Cowes, East Gippsland, Swan Hill and Horsham.
Activities for young people range from a Taylor Swift trivia night in Greater Shepparton, a pop-up cinema in East Gippsland to GeekCon in Wangaratta, focusing on all things comic and pop culture.
Recipients include Daylesford Secondary College who will lead Live4Life, an initiative aimed at enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of young people. The school has a group of 13 Year 9 students dubbed ‘The Crew’, who will organise a wellbeing week with guest speakers and workshops to promote mental health awareness.
Mildura Rural City Council will use their grant to host the Youth Awards, recognising the achievements of young people aged between 12 and 25 years of age who have showed leadership and overcame hardship.
Funding will also be used to stage the BendiGLOW Youth Fest, a one-day youth focused community festival, with activities such as skateboarding, artistic murals and screen printing, fostering creativity and encouraging physical activity.
Youth Fest will be held in September, with the Labor Government’s investment supporting young people to organise and deliver events, showcase their skills, share ideas, build social connections, and expand their networks.
The Labor Government has funded the delivery of more than 400 Youth Fest events over the past four years.
